Studio Update #1
07/27/06
Ok, so day one of recording is in the books. Will ripped it through 3 whole songs last night and it was seriously awesome. We were recording till almost 4 am and every take got better and better. The man was like a drumming maniac!!! Can't wait to lay the bass down on these kick-butt drum tracks.
For fun we've been riding our bicycles around our make shift studio (which is actually this big empty office building) perfecting our stunts on the little racetrack John set up. So far we are not very good. John hit his arm on the wall, I busted my knee on my handlebar, and Will lost control going up the ramp doing a jump and the bike went our from under him, but was luckily unharmed. We will put some footage up on the web of our hijinks and bloopers as soon as we can edit it. Keep checking back right here for that.
That's about all to report so far since today due to circumstances beyond our control we were forced to take today off (don't worry it was really no big whoop). We instead watched a lot of TV Land (Good Times and The A-Team), went grocery shopping, and hit up Guitar Center. Hopefully we will start fresh tomorrow and get back down to bidness. Sooo psyched!!!

hahaha, yeah that was a good myspace update.
i had this mini obsession with watching the A-team when i was probably... oh gosh... ummm... in second or third grade!? i dunno how the hell i started watching that show at all, or WHY it was even that great of a show! i just remember the old-ish guy who had to have his daily cigar always in mouth stint. hmm, maybe my [grand]papa got me into it... he was into all that old fashionedy, action tv stuff.
ooohhh... and mr. T was in it. haha..
RIGHT.

Studio Update 2 Current mood: flirty Category: Automotive
07/30/06 Studio Update #2 So... Moving right along, Will is finishing up his basic drum tracks today. Very exciting. The "big" sounding drums are huge and Bonham-esque (sick dude!). The "smaller" sounding drums are sounding tight. Just what we were looking for. John is afraid things are going a little too smoothly. Things are sounding too great, and it's all coming way too easily. The other foot will surely drop sometime sooner or later... I fear our hard drives will somehow spontaneously combust and we will have to start from scratch. Fingers are being crossed, rabbits feet are being rubbed, shooting stars are being wished upon, horseshoes are being hung on walls, and we are in a constant search for four leaf clovers. YIKES!!! I've noticed some questions being asked about our recording and label situation so I will address that right here: This record is being self-produced like much of the EP was, and right now is being engineered by our great friend Bryan Russell. He engineered our EP and has a great ear and a great talent for getting amazing sounds on every instrument. He also assisted on that last Coldplay record (yeah I've never heard of them either). The man has CREDENTIALS YO! Bryan and Will geek out all damned day long discussing pre-amps, mics, and the acoustics of different rooms. As far as I'm concerned they may as well be speaking Aramaic, but they know what they're doing and the results have been tremendous. The songs on this record will not really sound like anything we've written before, but they do sound like Straylight Run. Does that make any sense? I dunno sorry for being so vague... I think there is a certain chemistry between the four of us that if we were to play in a Mariachi band it would still sound like Straylight Run. And no, there will not be a Tension and the Terror Part II. We'll leave the sweet song sequels to Metallica and Usher. They label situation goes like this: We fulfilled our commitment to Victory Records with the EP that was released last October. We decided we would save up our hard earned touring money and record this record without the "help" of any label. We will make exactly the record we want to make. We will begin talking to all labels AFTER the record is finished. We will not get in bed with anyone that isn't completely excited about the continual twists and turns this band will take with this album and albums in the future. There is a good chance too, that we will not sign with anybody. The music world is changing rapidly, record sales last week were at a 10 year low. The internet has LEVELED the playing field. It is a crazy time to be an artist right now. It's time for the business to get creative! So that is our dilly in a nutshell! Love, Shaun

Yeah, I guess it might take up quite a bit of space - I'm not sure. It depends how much else they have running if its just Windows or Mac Operating System and the software they need to record which looks like pro tools from the photo of will then it shouldn't be too bad. I have two hard drives and only filled up half of one.. why did I buy anotherrr.
