hopefully will or someone who knows a lot about things can help me out a bit.
i recently decided that i didn't like the way my drums looked, so i came up with the idea to take the wrap off and stain them a cool darker wood color or something. i figured i'd test this on an extra tom i have that i don't use. i was able to get the wrap and the glue off just fine, but i didn't notice until after i'd dismantled it, that a small piece of the outer ply had separated from the rest up by the bearing edge and bubbled out a bit.
my question being, what the crap do i do about the separation? should i just go with it and hope the edge still sounds decent, or sand it way down so that part isn't hitting the head at a funny angle...? the shell is all maple, if that helps at all.

that's bad news. alot of times the glue holding the wrap is really strong. but i guess that doesnt help now.
i think the best option would be trying to re-glue the ply and securing it. might want to do a bunch of research first though.
what make/model is it?

thank you, sir. i've talked to a handful of people about it, and the general consensus is that i should re-glue it, like you were saying. i'll keep digging around on the internet and see what else i can find out.
it's a pacific, cx series...
the drum i'm testing this out on is a little 10x8 tom that i never use. i'm half thinking about turning it into a funky little side snare, but i have no idea if it would actually sound decent or not...
