in two weeks i'll have my hands on a new drum kit. '83 tama superstar 12/16/22. not a huge fan of 16" floor toms (especially the 12/16 combo...too big of a difference, i prefer the 12/14 or 13/16 i think). but anyways... this is my first birch kit so i'm pretty excited. i've heard people rave about the tama superstars and the yamaha recording customs (which i'll be renting over in the UK so that will get me all prepped), but now i'll be able to spend some serious time with them.
tama is reintroducing the superstar line but i've heard people say that they are less than excited about it. i think its because they are using a 100% birch shell... aparently its going to have an inner and outer ply of basswood (which sounds like a cheaper filler sort of wood). but its going to have diecast hoops on all the drums which is kinda neat. and its mostly birch, which thick shells so its got a few things going for it. we'll see how it goes.
