Does anyone know how to properly a one handed roll for more than one measure and with the sound of buzz/double roll. I have been working at and have the general idea, but it sounds too rough and inconsistent

You mean like Buddy Rich? he always used to do that. its the timing like you have to keep your other hand[one not buzzing] hitting the stick you are using back towards the head so it sounds continuous, thats the only way ive ever seen one that sounds almost as consistent as a buzz roll. But i always thought it was a tad gimicky and just a bit show offy lol...[still wish i could do it]

sort of, I saw a video of a way you could do it, keeping your other (not rolling) hand free, which is what I want to do. It is more of a like a hand-shake motion, pivoting the stick on the rim, so when you lift up your hand, the stick hits.

It takes a LOT of finger control to do a decent one handed roll. Marco Minnemann has an exercise I like where you play 16ths with a measure of 4 from index down to pinky. Your finger should be controlling the stick and not your wrists or arms. When you get that at a decent tempo, you will have a stronger control of extended one-handed passages. You should be able to get a running 16th pattern for an indefinite time period at about 140 BPM after some work. With that and some wrist control (Somewhere in between Moller and the Weckl triangle thing) You should be making progress on the roll. Think more of a pushing pivot against the rim and head and than a back and forth. Also, using some pretty light, long sticks seems to help me with this endeavor (I like Vater Manhattan 7As)

Also watch Johnny Rabb's approach. There are some videos you can watch at meinl.de that are pretty useful if you're something of a sensate.
