Hello everybody. My sister needs help (so I thought I ask everyone here) about drum kits. She's currently learning drums and after 10 weeks learning my mum will buy her a drum kit. We were at our local music shop and tried different kits but none of us know anything about drums (I only play piano and guitar, and this is my little sis' first instrument) so I was wondering if you could tell us if it would be worth paying extra for the electric kit, because all it seems to do is exactly the same as a regular kit except you can turn down the volume and put headphones in it. But as I know zilch about drums I thought someone could help me out. Thanks Ali xxx

electric drums aren't very satistying to play, more like playing on a tabletop than a drum. The don't really sound real either. but if noise is an issue it might be useful. I have no neighbors, so i play as loud as i want.

Yeah, I had a go on the electric kit the other day to 'try it out' (It just looked fun, but I still sucked!) and it sounded like computor sound effects. Like you know when something sounds realistic but yet you can tell it's not genuine. Sound would be an issue though, My mum hates loud noises! But I have a guitar and she doesn't mind that too much. Mind you, I guess drums are a lot louder... I think we'll keep looking around a bit more. Thanks for your help.

i agree that if volume is a concern, then an electronic drumset is a great way to go. unfortunately , most nice e-kits are really expensive, the new V-drums from roland are supposed to be awesome, but they are super super expensive. if you get an acoustic drumkit, you can find something decent used for under $500. so you just have to weigh your options. do your research and think about what you want and what you need (or what your sister wants, and what your mom needs)
good luck -w

Thanks. We have quite elderly neighbours and they won't want loud noise, and me and my band hog the garage so she can't practise their. My Mum says she needs to think about it more but she'll probobly get an electric one because of the volume etc.
