Hey Will, You know during the last form of "A Slow Descent" on the album how you kind of drop the beat? What is the rytham for that? It's here: It's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. HEREIt's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time. Thanks for the help. Also, for style reasons: What do you have your drums tuned to? They sound pretty light compared to some things you here, or it could be your sticks. Think? Medium? Thin? Just wondering so it doesn't sound bad when I play along with the album. Also: (This is long I know) I recomend you use Jazz Brushes on a song on the next album. I really love how they sound and if coupled with an all acoustic song, it'd be pretty sweet.

hey hey,
that is just a pretty standard triplet. i think it would be a quarter note triplet on the 4th beat, starting with the snare and followed by two hits on the rack+floor. we used a click track to keep the tempo constant for the begining of the song, but by the end of the song we go to a free tempo so i think that the triplet drags a little. i tried to over emphasize it (spelling?)
i tune my drums differently at different times. and i use a lot of different drums. on "a slow descent" for the EP, i used the following drums:
8x14 maple snare. tuned medium 9x13 ludwig stainless steel rack tom - tuned medium/tight 16x16 ludwig stainless steel floor tom - tuned medium/tight 16x24 tama superstar kickdrum - tuned medium/loose but WIDE open. no port/hole, no muffling
i would love to do a song with brushes but i honestly don't have the skills to pull it off. i havent spent nearly enough time using brushes or playing in a jazz environment to pull it off.
thanks! -will
