Hello Will and whoever might be reading this. I was just curious as to what program you use for the electric drums on tracks such as Hands in the Sky, Later That Year, and Slow Decent. Do you use reason or another midi program such as that to achieve those sounds?

hey brett,
it all depends. programing is usually done by john in reason. but alot of the sample/loop stuff is just stuff we record and cut up or loop in protools.
hands in the sky most of the main beat is stuff from reason, then a loop of live drums comes in for the third verse (its actually just 1 mic over a kick/snare/hat/crash set up), then more reason stuff comes in at the end as well as a bunch of hand claps and stomping that we recorded then looped.
later that year let's see... i think all the percussion from that was recorded then cut up. the intro noises are just something john found or some sound he messed with, then there is a really low sub-bass sound which is a sample that we recorded of a kick drum tapped really lightly with a soft mallet, then there is a backwards cymbal hit that comes in and loops.
slow decent i think on that song i transposed the drum beat from the main part of the song backwards, then recorded that, then we reversed it so the sounds are all reverse, but the groove is still there, then we messed with it through a korg kaos pad and maybe other toys.
