hey will, are there any online stores that sell Istanbuls? or is it pretty much either manufacturer direct or through the local shops (most of which listed on the website are far from where I am)

first off, i play instanbul agop cymbals. istanbul split sometime in the 80s or 90s into two companies. agop and mehmet. i play agop. check www.istanbulcymbals.comand second, with all cymbals its very important to hear them before you buy them, because most good cymbals are hand hammered and there for each one varies. istanbul agop's are made in a very old school traditional way and each cymbal varies aLOT! its really cool if you want to find the exact version of a certain type of cymbal but if you are ordering a cymbal online its harder because you dont know how the cymbal will really sound/feel till you actually play it. try this first: www.cymbalsonly.com/cymbals/agop/agop.htmthey have clips of each actual cymbals. or you could try these: www.thecymbalshop.com/shop/home.phpwww.adrums.com/this site is down temporarily but it's usually cool i think: www.superstitionpercussion.com/

so far I've picked up a pair of 13" Traditional light hi hats and a 19" Vezir ride. they are excellent cymbals very responsive with a lot of character. I'm looking at a 17" crash either a Sultan or a Traditional Dark.
