Hey Will.
I really love your drumming on the original Cassino Demos. Your drum parts really help create the mood for that cd.
That being said, I really really love the drum sound you got. Can your remember what combination of drums you used? What do you think of Matt Squire? I love some of the drum sounds he gets
Also, why didn't you drum on Cassino's full Legenth?
I will say though, Craig did a good job trying to recreate some of you drum parts, but its still missing something...
thanks matthew

first off, thanks so much.
on that session we used my old ludwig keystone badge burgandy sparkle kit. (the burgandy sparkle doesnt effect the sound but it looks nice!). we used the 12/16/22 set up. i used the 13/16/22 for a few songs on the new record, specifically The Words We Say.
for snares, we might've used my black cat 8x14. i can't really remember.
i know he used 602 (or 604s) on the toms. the clip on senheisers. i think a D112 on the kick, and i think TLM 103's as overheads.
matt is great. i've known him for years... a really great guy with a great attitude...which is key in the studio. i actually am not a huge fan of some of the production on a lot of his bigger records, they sound great, but not my thing. typically its very big compressed modern rock sound. the cassino demos i think he approached differently and i think they came out with a great vibe.
nick asked me to play on the full length, but the timing didnt work out. straylight was on tour at the time. i was extremely bummed. i wouldve loved to have done it.
yea i was really flattered when i heard their record and noticed that craig kept a lot of my drum parts...he's a serious drummer!!
let me know if you have any other questions! -w

Thanks for the info;
I never would have though that you were playing keystone era Ludwigs on those songs. I always thought you used the Dark Walnut stain Black cats.
I agree that Matt Squire does usually get that Modern rock sound, which really isint my thing either. I just Love that his stands out from the rest of those guys that are going for that same sound. Like In the right context, it suits the music. If you look at "Is This Thing Loaded" and you compare the drums to "Pollyanna", you can see just how much a good enginer can help form a bands sound. The bass drum sound he gets on Pollyanna is really something amazing.
I also love how he is sorta like the underdog. He doesnt have this giant mult-million doller studio with huge bucks coming from the record companies. He is doing all these great things and in a farily modest facility. It just goes to show that there is still something to be said about Technique rather then who has the best gear.
