Hey;
Well, Christmas came, and left me with a few gift cards for a local drum shop. I have been looking for a new crash cymbal, so this was the perfect chance.
When I say "I am looking for a new Crash cymbal", I am not really looking for a "crash" cymbal. I dont like to think of cymbals as "ride" or "crash". I like big, thin cymbals that can do a bit of both.
Anyways, I had seen some ads in Modern Drummer, for Zildjian's new line of K's. The Hybrid Series. At first I though these would be kinda cheesey, some kind of gimick. well, I ended up buying a 19'' and I love it. It does everything really well. Very chrisp, with a nice bell. Sounds great for crashing, and nice for light jazz sticking.
Defintly worth checking out.

akira jimbo is a really interested player. everything he does seems to be slightly different and i love that fact.
the hybrids seem cool. i like the idea of controlled bell, with more wash towards the edge.
istanbul has a ton of cymbals with some really interested lathing/unlathed options. check them out.
