shaun, i saw a picture recently of you playing a four string, and it was a p-bass none the less....for some reason i had always assumed you were a jazz bass guy. i was just wondering if you were trying some new stuff, or i just never noticed you playing one of those before...

I bet that pic was from our show in Jacksonville. Jay Russell, our good friend who plays bass in Hot Rod Circuit decided to play guitar tech for us. For no apparent reason he comes on stage before our last song and tries to hand his bass to John. John didn't have any clue what to do with the bass. I decided I would take it off Jay's hands. So I played the last song with the 4 string P-bass for the hell of it. I believe it's a '62 reissue which "conveniently" was tuned down to drop D and the tuners also tune "backwards". These "backwards" tuners were standard on all pre-CBS Fender's.
I also played a 4 string P-bass at last years Skatefest in Worcester Mass. Being the genious that I am, I drove all the way up there without my bass! Phil from The Movielife was kind enough to lend me his bass, which happened to be The Movielife's last show ever.
I believe Phil's bass was white with black pick guard, and Jay's was black with tortoise shell pick guard.
On a related note, I've recently picked up a few new 4 strings, one is a P-bass. I woke up one day and realized I didn't have any decent 4 string basses so I decided to stock up. You may see them eventually on tour, and you will most certainly hear them on our next record.
