What do you think about him Shaun?
Or anyone else that knows about him, he is the bass player for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

I first started listening to Victor Wooten probably around the same time his first solo record came out in 1996. Suffice to say I was completely blown away. There was a transcription for a song called "Justice" in Bass Player Magazine and it boggled my mind how he was doing two separate things at once. He was tapping a melody with his right hand while doing the "bass line" solely with his left. For a while I tried pretty hard to emulate his style. I worked on tapping with both hands, and especially tried to cop his open hammer pluck technique which can make you sound like you're playing at the speed of light. Eventually I started to realize that even though all that stuff sounds really cool, it wasn't very practical for the type of music I like to play. I still go back to that kind of thing once in a while and mess around for fun though. As for Victor Wooten, I think he is a phenomenal bass player and musician. Technically I think there is no one better. I've never met him but he seems like a pretty cool guy too. He has tons of positive things on his website, like Words of Wisdom Years, lessons, etc. Also years ago I emailed him and surprisingly he got right back to me. So in my opinion thumbs up all around for Vic! Any bass player should really check him out. If you've never heard him, prepare to be amazed. www.VictorWooten.com-Shaun PS I'm really glad to see some bass players coming to this forum. Real bass players are a rare breed. Thank all of you for posting!

Yeah Victor Wooten almost made me set down my bass cause a fellow bass player lent me a tape of him and the Flecktones playing, during the show he broke a E string but just bent it out of the way and kept playing. He's too amazing. I just got the Edgar Meyer and Bela Fleck CD and there's one part where Edgar and Victor are both playing on the same upright it's mindblowing.

A few days ago I bought the Flecktones' Live Art double disc for my first ever listen to Victor Wooten. First off, all of the musicians in that band are great, and secondly, wow! I've never heard anyone slap so intricately.. and outside of funk, I've never heard slap used so appropriately. It kind of destroyed my paradigm that slap's only use outside of funk (which I do like, and am working on) was Seinfeld cutscenes! Go Victor Wooten!
