hey shaun, what songs would you say made you play like you do today, being songs when you first started playing till recently. Not that im trying to steal your style but more for the experience of learning those songs that birthed the great shaun cooper bass player extravaganza. im not trying to make it seem like i idolize you more like i respect your bass skillz as a fellow bassist.

First off, I would never ever worry about someone trying to steal my style. Unless you were directly ripping off lines I have written I feel like it is impossible for anyone to completely emulate someones feel and style.
The players that have influenced my playing the most are:
Paul McCartney - The Beatles - His lines are so lyrical and hooky, they are almost songs in themselves.
James Jamerson - Motown - such a great groove. Just so smooth. I love his use of chromatic passing tones.
John Deacon - Queen - One of the most underated bassists of all time. He came up with amazing stuff under all the amazing guitar work of Brian May and the acrobatic vocals and piano of Freddie Mercury; holding it all together with Roger Taylor.
Carol Kaye - Beach Boys, Motown etc - A wonderful bass player and all around great musician. Her playing on the Beach Boys - God Only Knows really got me hooked on her.
Hope that helps you a little and gives you an idea where I got my start. Thanks again for checking in, feel free to keep the questions coming.
-Shaun
