Your Own Disaster is quite possibally one of my fav TBS songs. I think it would be awesome if yal would do this song. Its real melow and the vocals are great, it just sounds more SR than TBS, maybe im scrazy i dunno, but i like it a lot. just outting my own 2 cents in

this makes me sad... i know there are members of TBS here but really, the song still belongs to TBS. SR can't do it, not in ernest, and it would be odd to think of it as a cover.
good rule of thumb people: if a band splits or loses a member(s) then the fragments of that band or broken off members (for lack of a better way to put it) will NOT do the old songs....
reunion tours excluded from the above statement....

A rule of thumb, yes... but not always. Stabbing Westward split up and their vocalist plays a few Stabbing Westward songs at shows with his new band, The Dreaming *shrugs* but I agree with the idea that covers shouldn't really be done when the band that sung the song originally is still 'together'. Your Own Disaster is a beautiful song and, no offence to Straylight Run, I don't think they could do it justice on their own. It's an old TBS song and that's the way it should stay... and aren't Jesse Lacey's vocals on that demo, too? I can't see how it could ever be the same with people missing. You can't chase the past, people... SR - and their own songs - are the future ;D

I think it not write for SR to do a TBS song but i also dont think TBS should be able to do certain songs that held huge significants for ex members. such as no i in team... but since TBS still holds the name then they can use their own disgression for that, like a ethics issue. but SR has to get writes and shit i think.

I think they are... at the end... but I'm not sure. He's a great songwriter but I think my favourite lyricists are Christopher Hall of Stabbing Westward and Brandon Rike of Dead Poetic, purely because I relate to a lot of what they write about.

Notable additions to the list of former band members who perform their old band's stuff - Paul Westerberg does a bunch of Replacements songs in his solo sets, Joe Strummer always did Clash songs (one of the last tunes he ever played live was London's Burning with a surprise appearance from Mick Jones) and Paul Weller performs shitty, soulless versions of once phenomenal Jam songs whose lack of energy and passion make their performance seem nothing short of sacriledge. A little closer to the scene - Baby I'm an Anarchist by Against Me! is actually a cover of a song by Tom's old band.

well, Taking Back Sunday aren't allowed to play 'The Ballad of Sal' anymore, because that was a song John Nolan mostly wrote, so if they ever play it, John get money, or something along those lines. So if it was the same way with 'No 'I' in Team, then Taking Back Sunday wouldn't play it.

Do you know personally that Jesse Ripped someone elses lyrics? yes. i do. he's taken from the cure, from movies, the smiths, archers of the loaf, taking back sunday, moz, and he's ended a song with coldplay lyrics live.

would you say that there is a difference in being 'inspired' or 'influenced' by then just straight up stealing lyrics?
